What is the best way to get your fitness up when considering going to the Royal Air Force?

Currently i am considering going to The Royal Air Force. But i need to really work on my fitness before i even consider applying. What would bhe the best way to manage this without causing my body strain or suffering and doing it at a steady pace? All suggestions appreciated.

you dont need to work on fitness before applying, go to your local careers office and they will supply fitness programme for you, when i joined in 1991 (long time ago) the fitness standards were different but due to schools cutting so much PE from timetables and teenagers taking part in less sport the fitness standards have changes. The whole application process takes months so you have plenty of time to get fitter before training at RAF Halton, good luck
