When you watch the ads for makeup on TV, you’ll see how the models are typically white. If you’re dark or olive-skinned, how will you know which shade of foundation, lipstick, blusher and eye shadow will best suit your skin tone? Read on to find out!.
Makeup Tips to Remember
The key to having a perfectly made up face when going to work or when preparing for a night out is to choose shades which complement your skin tone. For women with dark skin or an olive skin tone, here are a few makeup tips to keep in mind:
• Use the right shade of foundation.
One of the biggest mistakes that women make, no matter what complexion they have, is choosing a foundation which is either lighter or darker than their actual skin color. This makes your makeup look less than pristine, so it pays to exert the extra effort in making sure that you have the right shade of foundation.
To test it out, apply some foundation to your jaw. If it blends with the natural color on your neck and chest without making your skin look lighter or darker, then that’s the perfect shade for you. Another tip to remember is that for dark-skinned or olive-skinned women, a cream or liquid foundation is more suitable than the powder variety so that it will not leave a chalky finish.
• Add some color to your cheeks with a sheer blush.
Instead of going for too-red blushers, choose a coral or peach blush to add some color to your cheeks. Apply it to the apples of your cheeks, going towards the direction of your ears.
• Apply just a dusting of eye shadow.
Some of the eye shadow colors which complement your skin tone are tan, bronze or dark brown. To create dramatic smoky eyes, use darker shades which you can blend into the crease of your eyelids.
• Finish up your eye makeup.
To tie up together your eye makeup, use eyeliner for your upper lids. Dark brown or black eyeliner will open up your eyes – lighter colors will not draw much attention to it. You can also curl your eyelashes and apply mascara.
• Color your lips with sheer gloss.
Finally, use sheer gloss on your lips. Similar to blushers, lip gloss shades suitable for dark-skinned or olive-skinned women are corals and pinks. If you want to use an opaque lipstick, go for shades like mahogany, dark red or burgundy.
One of the most fun things that you can do is experiment with makeup. Choose the right shades which highlight your complexion and enhance your features, so you will end up looking your best.
