Let us be honest – most of us could do with losing weight.
Whether it is a case of just shedding a few pounds, or whether we need to lose a whole lot, the odds are anyone reading this would like some weight lost.
Amazingly many of us don’t know how to go about doing it. We read the latest fad diet, or the latest exercise craze (Zumba anyone?) and decide that must be the secret way of losing weight. After all it worked for ‘that’ celebrity didn’t it (insert any celebrity that is out pimping an exercise or diet this week)?
The truth of the matter is that it doesn’t take a degree in rocket science to understand how we need to lose weight. Eat less, exercise more. And yet one of the most powerful, easy to access and simple exercise routines you can imagine is criminally overlooked time and again. I am, of course, talking about walking.
Walking for Weight Loss
Walking is actually one of the most powerful weight loss techniques available – and it has a number of advantages to it. Did you know, for example, that you burn more calories if you walk a distance at a good pace than if you jog it?
There are a number of other advantages to walking as a weight loss technique:
1. Low impact. If you find that even running can hurt your joints or muscles then it may you need a low impact exercise. Walking is very low impact, which makes it perfect.
2. Easy to start. No complicated techniques to learn, or equipment to understand. Just putting one leg in front of the other is enough.
3. Cheap. There are no joining fees, no specialised equipment costing hundreds. You can get started with what you have, right now, for free.
4. Simple to up the effort. If you want to scale up your weight loss you can walk further, you can walk up hill, on sand or carry weights to burn more calories.
Losing weight by just walking is a great option, and far more enjoyable to many people than hours spent in a gym or carrying out intense physical activities….go on, give it a try today!.
