There are a variety of different ways to improve eyesight naturally. These options may be desired by people who wish to have better eyesight without the use of surgery or corrective lenses. Bilberry and eyebright are also sources for vitamins A, C, and E, which are good for improving eyesight as well.

Eye Exercise Routine

Another method for improving eyesight is to start an eye exercise routine, according to A Complete Guide to Fitness, Sports, & Nutrition by Mary Anderson (Netlibrary Inc., June 2007). People wanting to do this should close one eye and hold a pencil at arm’s length in front of their nose and slowly move the pencil to their nose, while focusing their eyes on the pencil.

They should then slowly move the pencil away from the nose, while focusing on the pencil. Repeat this process with the other eye closed. Another eye exercise involves looking straight ahead while moving the pencil from left to right. The head should remain still as the eyes focus on the pencil as it moves from one side to the other.

Improving Eyesight with Healthy Foods

According to Complete Food and Nutrition Guide By Roberta Larson Duff and the American Dietetic Association (Wiley, John & Sons Incorporated, September 2006), lutein is an antioxidant that is helpful in improving vision. Lutein is found in green leafy vegetables, kiwifruit, and egg yolks. Zeaxanthin is also good for the eyes. It is found in corn, citrus fruits, and winter squash.

Another simple method recommended for improving eyesight is to splash the eyes with cold water. Do this each morning and right before bed at night. The cold temperature of the water will cause the capillaries to tighten and the muscles will retract. This will help strengthen and tone the eyes, leaving them feeling refreshed.
