Acne scars left on the face can be embarrassing, and just as traumatic as the acne that caused the scarring. Most acne scar treatments must be done by a professional and can cost thousands of dollars.
The more affordable topical scar treatments are filled with chemicals that may be harmful to the body. But are there any home remedies for acne scars that actually work?
Acne scarring is caused by a pimple that becomes very inflamed, takes longer than normal to heal or is very deep. In order to avoid acne scarring it is important to not pop pimples, not pick off scabs, and also to try to reduce the inflammation of outbreaks.
There are several different methods that may be tried, either combined or separately to reduce scarring. Dry skin brushing with a very soft facial brush may be effective in healing acne scars.
You will need to choose a brush that is made specifically for the face, and brush lightly in an upward motion. Doing this morning and night will help the skin to shed off dead skin cells and to create new skin, hopefully in place of the scar. Dry skin brushing may also help to prevent new acne outbreaks.
There are a few topical treatments that you can use on your scars as well. Vitamin E oil, either from a bottle, or by opening up a capsule has amazing skin healing properties.
Vitamin E is also very good for your circulatory system, so taking a capsule by mouth once a day would be beneficial. Use a clean cotton swab to apply the vitamin E oil to the cleaned scarred areas at bedtime.
Another powerful home remedy for acne scars is raw unpasteurized honey. You can find honey that has not been heated at a local farmer’s market or at your local health food store.
Apply a small amount of honey to a clean face with a cotton swab, do this morning and evening for best results.
Sea salt masks have many excellent benefits for the skin. They help to tighten loose skin and reduce scarring, whether it be stretch marks or acne scarring. Buy the highest quality dead sea salts that you can find and chop up about a teaspoon of salt in your food processor or with a coffee grinder into a very fine powder.
Use moist hands to apply the salt to a clean face. After the salt has been applied wet your hands and press them on top of the salt to dissolve. You do not want your face to be dripping wet, just moist.
Now, go lay down for about 15 minutes to allow the salt to soak into the skin, or better yet, go to bed for the night. When you wake up in the morning, splash your face with warm water to remove the residue.
You can do this treatment 3-4 times a week for best results.
Acne scarring is certainly unpleasant, but it doesn’t have to be permanent.
Employing the above listed home remedies for acne scars will have your skin looking and feeling better within a few months and without all of the harmful chemicals, and the thousands of dollars conventional treatments will cost.
