Goa is undoubtedly one of the best creations of God, this fairy-tale land blessed with heavenly beauty is to be seen to believe, as no tourist manual or guide can depict the essence of Goaâ€™s pristine beauty and rich heritage. There are two parts of Goa, North Goa and South Goa. The excellent stretch of beautiful beaches of North Goa, starting from Fort Aguada near Panaji towards the border of Maharashtra has indeed made Goa a popular tourist destination. South Goa is also endowed with string of beautiful beaches. Every year millions of tourist visit Goa to spend their vacation in well-known beaches of India.
The most interesting and exciting part of Goaâ€™s coastline begins beyond the Baga river from Anjuna onwards. The popular beach resort is endowed with exceptional beauty. The cool waves washing the white sands of the shores, lined with palm trees present one of the most fascinating views. Another attraction is the magnificent Albuquerque Mansion, built in 1920. It is flanked by octagonal towers and has attractive Mangalore tiled roof.
Anjuna is also famous for its Flea Market, held on Wednesday afternoon during the tourist season. It started as a congregation of European travellers commonly known as the â€œhippiesâ€ / here one can buy handicraft items, jewellery, electronic goods, designer clothes, eatables and other items of daily use. But one has to bargain smartly to get best prices. The vibrant fair is worth visiting and will certainly make your day. The secluded Ozrant Beach, located between Anjuna and Vagator, was one a â€œhippie havenâ€™. There is also a spring with a sitting Buddha carved in the rock. The spring water is rich in minerals and potable. The cliff face at Ozrant is covered with psychedelic art from the sixties. Anjuna is 18 kms form Panaji. Buses connect the nearby Chapora for and Mapusa.
If you are looking for a peaceful time at the beach, head towards the beautiful Benaulim beach just 2 kms south of Colva and 4 kms from Maragao. It is said to be named after a Sanskrit word â€˜Bann-halliâ€™ (the place where the arrow fell) and has an important place in Hindu mythology. According to a legend Lord Parshuram shot an arrow from a peak of Sahyadri Ranges, which struct over here and the beautiful land of Goa was reclaimed from the sea. Benualim is also the birth place of Fr Joseph Vaz, who was born on 21 April 1651. He lead missions to Canara and Ceylon, his dedicated work during the smallpox epidemic in 1697 is legendary. He came to be known as the â€˜Apostle of Ceylonâ€™ and is commemorated in the church of the Holy Spirit at Maragao.
This popular beach of southern Goa is 6 km. west of Maragao. It is the pride of Salcete taluka, which has a string of silvery beaches lined by coconut palms starting from Majorda in the north to Mobor beach in the south. Just walk a couple of kilometers in either direction along the beach and you will be in the lap of Mother Nature, where sand, sea and sky blend in enchanting natural harmony.
The silvery beach is just 4 km south of the Dabolim airport and 8 km from Vasco da Gama. It is dominated by the huge building of a five star hotel Park Plaza Resort. The beach has water sports facilities like wind surfing, water skiing and there are number of sailing regattas. A small dive School has opened here recently, which is one of few PADI-approved institutes in India. It operates from the Joetâ€™s Guest House, providing â€œtry divesâ€ for novices, guided tours to ship-wreck sites and coral beds off the coast. It also offers courses for advanced qualifications. Besides Park Plaza, there are some reasonably priced good accommodation facilities. It is a nice place to spend some time and convenient place to stay if you want catch an early flight.
The peaceful beach is just north of Sinquerim. The Sinquerim-Candolim beach stretch is dotted with excellent accommodation facilities. The beach is log and straight, backed by scrub covered dunes. It also has facilities for water sports. Candolim also has numerous beach cafÃ©â€™s providing excellent Goan and Continental dishes.
