What Diet Advice Do You Trust?

What diet advice to trust....it seems that suddenly everyone is taking pills for everything; not happy with your weight? have a diet pill, feeling a bit blue? – this pill will pick you up!, off color try Higher Nature vitamins.

With so many pills out there and all advertising to be the best thing for you it can get slightly confusing.



Which diet advice do we believe, which really are the best for us, will any have any side effects and most importantly of all do any of them actually deliver results? Unless you have a masters degree or above in chemistry and physics, the science behind all of these can get pretty confusing and often leaves us so baffled we have difficultly recalling our own names.

But once we learn to ignore the overload of diet advice & information the adverts are trying to sell us it becomes a lot clearer which are able to stand up to the claims they make. Take diet pills as an example; we all know that the only diets that really work are the ones where we change our eating habits, eat healthily and exercise, there is no miracle cure that will help you drop 3 dress sizes just by taking a pill a day.

However, what does work are those pills which are help suppress the appetite, for example 5HTP from Holland & Barrett.

5-HTP is an amino acid that is the intermediate step between tryptophan and the important brain chemical serotonin. Serotonin is often referred to as the ‘happy hormone’ as production of this is a well know contributor to the feelings of well being.

In modern life the lifestyle and dietary practices of many people results in lowered levels of serotonin within the brain. As a result of this many people crave sugar and other carbohydrates which help to produce serotonin; this often leads to weight gain.

Where 5-HTP steps in is by helping the body to produce both serotonin and melatonin and so increasing the ‘happy feelings’ the body craves. This in turn leads to appetites being suppressed and in turn weight loss, as long as a healthy diet and exercise are also taking place.
