I was looking through a magazine the other day when I came across an article for Al Fresco All Natural Chicken Sausage. As I really love sausage but don’t like pork or anything too spicy, can’t have MSG or a lot of artificial ingredients or preservatives, I decided to check it out.
I read the article about the Al Fresco All Natural Chicken Sausage and also the recipes that they had and was really impressed. Chicken, natural, fully cooked, red and green peppers already in it, what more could I ask for.. These sausages are also gluten free.
When I went to the store a few days later I checked in the meat section to see if they had the Al Fresco Chicken Sausage and was surprised that they actually did carry it. They had two kinds available, the Sweet Italian with fresh red and green peppers Chicken Sausage and also Sweet Apple Chicken Sausage (more about that in another review).
The sausage comes in a 12oz package, runs about $4.00 to $5.00 depending on where you shop and has 4 sausages to a pack and are about six inches long. I decided to get a package of the Sweet Italian Chicken Sausage and make it for lunch when I got home.
When I showed my husband the Al Fresco All Natural Chicken Sausage (with red and green peppers) already in it, he too was impressed.
There are a few different ways that you can cook these sausages and many ways to serve them including on the grill, pan frying or broiling, you can also cook them in the microwave, slice and fry with veggies and top with cheese for a quick stir fry, simmer in either red or white sauce and serve over pasta, or with sauteed potatoes, onions and garlic. We decided to heat them in the microwave for about 30 seconds then fry them in some olive oil until brown. We really weren’t sure how they were going to taste or if one would be enough for us. These Al Fresco Chicken Sausages had a really good smell as they were cooking and only took about a minute or 2 to fry. They also didn’t shrink while cooking leaving them the same size as before cooking.
After the first bite, we were really impressed, these were good! Along with the Al Fresco All Natural Chicken Sausage we had some chips and a drink. We didn’t need to worry about whether or not we would be full after eating only one, as thick as these sausages were, one was definitely enough!
The only problem that my husband had was with the casing, he had to cut it off as he said it was too thick for him to chew, me on the other hand had no problem with it.
If you are looking for an alternative to either beef or pork sausages, then give the Al Fresco All Natural Chicken Sausages a try. Though the store I was shopping in at the time only carried two varieties of this sausage, I found online that this company has many different varieties to choose from. You can also order online.
You can be sure that I will be buying a lot more of these Al Fresco All Natural Chicken Sausages either in the store or online.
