How to Eat…Without Losing the Will to Live!

A lot of people quit dieting because they think they have to partake in things like rice cakes and broccoli! This is simply not the case! Never mind quit, some won't even start a weight loss program because of this. They are discouraged…

Another reason is that people become discouraged because they become hungry. And that is surely not good. While it is realistic to become moderately hungry you don't want to be starving. You are not a robot but a human being. Don't torture yourself. No one continues to do anything they don't like. The few that do are often miserable.

Below are some steps you can study and follow to get your eating habits together.

• Eat the foods you like. Now don't get me wrong. I'm not talking about hot dogs and chocolate cake. At least not all the time. But just eat what you usually do on a regular basis, you know things like sandwiches for example while decreasing your portions a little.

• Eat enough. Most people are too much in a hurry to lose weight quickly. If they don't see 6 pounds come off in the first week they start panicking. Don’t! Remember that most people who are overweight eat for other reasons. Habit, boredom, depression, control etc. Only eat when you are hungry. Ask yourself this question, it is important. When you feel that you have had enough to hold out until another meal just stop. Drink a few glasses of water and 20 minutes later you won't even think about it for awhile until you are.

• Stick to how many meals you would normally eat. At first you want to try and mimic your old habits as close as possible. This way it won't be so much of a shock. If you eat 2 meals, eat two meals. To keep your metabolism running better just introduce 1 or 2 meal replacements like a homemade shake or food supplements making sure they are over 200 calories each.

• Take in the smallest quantity before bed. For example, eat your regular meals first and take your supplemental meals at night. You'd be surprised how well this will work. You don’t want to have to burn as many calories while you are sleeping because obviously you aren't as active. This is an area where a lot of people fail.

I hope you find these ideas practical and easy to apply. The main point I want to stress is that you should feel as comfortable and happy as possible while going through this initial phase. The next step after losing the weight is maintaining it, which is no where near as difficult as losing it. Once you have laid down a foundation and you get used to the minor adjustments in your lifestyle it should be a piece of cake!

- Eat normally at first while decreasing portions a little at a time
- Only eat when hungry, examine your reasons before eating

21st Century Tea

There are so many ways that our immune systems can be overwhelmed ... it's in our air, our water, our food, our workplace, our stress. This blend of organic and wild herbs is not only helpful but comforting, strengthening and tasty.

1 part red clover blossoms
1 part nettle leaves
1 part pau d'Arco
1 part alfalfa & sage leaves
1 part St.Johns wort tops
1 part ginger root

Place all herbs in a tea ball or bag, put in your nicest or most favorite cup or mug, and cover with boiling water. Steep for 10 minutes.

Remove tea ball or bag, and add sugar, honey, sweetener, milk, cream or whatever, to taste.

ADD/ADHD Remetea

1Teaspoon Hops
1 Teaspoon Gotu Kola

Bring 1 1/2 cups of water to a boil. Place the herbs inside, place lid on tightly and let it steep for 5 minutes. Drink twice a day.

After Dinner Carminative Tea

1 cup water
1 tablespoon fennel seeds

Bring the water and fennel seeds to a boil with the lid on the pan and let sit for 15 minutes and enjoy this calming cup of tea.

Fennel is a wonderful herb for digestion and can help your body increase its ability to digest a big meal or a meal with lots of fat.

Natural Beauty recipe

A Bath For Emotional Balance

1/2 c Dried orange peel *OR* 1/2 Whole fresh orange; sliced
3 tb Dried jasmine flowers
2 tb Dried sandalwood chips
When everything seems just a bit too overwhelming, a bath can be extremely good medicine. This season, you might appreciate herbal remedies for feelings like nervousness, tension, anxiety or emotional fatigue. Try whole herbs like chamomile, jasmine, juniper, lavender, orange, rose, rosemary or sandalwood.
For a bath that'll restore your sense of balance, make an infusion of the listed herbs; sit back and enjoy.

A Bath To Help Varicose Veins

2 tb Dried ginger powder *OR* 4 tb Fresh gingerroot; chopped
4 tb Dried juniper
2 tb Dried rosemary
4 tb Dried lemon peel *OR* 1 Whole lemon; quartered
Although most often associated with women, bulging, enlarged veins can be a problem for both sexes.
The condition is largely hereditary, but a case of varicose veins can be made worse by had habits; standing for long periods of time, wearing tight clothing, and sitting with the legs crossed. Hormonal fluctuations also can contribute to varicosity.
Herbal baths can help, although you should be careful not to take baths that are too hot (extreme temperatures can exacerbate the problem). Whole herbs that you can use in a bath to help boost circulation in the legs include geranium, ginger, juniper, lemon, peppermint and rosemary.

A Sleep Inducing Bath

4 tb Dried chamomile
3 tb Dried lemon balm
2 tb Dried passionflower
1 tb Dried valerian
If you're feeling agitated at bedtime, the right herbal combination can help you drift right off into the REM stage.
Herbs that you might use in a bedtime bath include chamomile, hops, lavender, lemon balm, marjoram, passionflower, sandalwood and valerian.

Bath Bag

1 7 inch square piece of muslin or other light fabric
12 Inch lenght of ribbon
1 c Potpourri
Make a potpourri of equal amounts of comfrey and chamomile.
Place the potpourri in the center of the fabric square. Gather all edges of fabric over the potpourri and tie with ribbon or string.

Daily Low Fat - Low Carb - Vegetarian Recipes

SUGARLESS CAKE

1 c. dates, chopped
1 c. prunes, chopped
1 c. raisins
1 c. cold water
1 stick margarine, melted
2 eggs
1 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1 c. plain flour
1 c. nuts, chopped
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. vanilla

Boil dates and prunes in the one cup of water for 3 minutes; add margarine and raisins and let cool.
Mix flour, soda, salt, eggs, nuts, spices and vanilla.
Add to fruit mixture. Stir to blend.
Pour into baking dish. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes.

Conscious laughter. Modern science is now beginning to verify the adage, "Laughter is the best medicine."

One of the most famous examples illustrating this point is that of Norman Cousins, who wrote of recovering from a potentially crippling arthritic condition after spending hours watching Marx Brothers movies and reruns of Candid Camera while taking megadoses of vitamin C.

Laughing regularly caused his pain to lessen, until eventually his illness disappeared altogther. More recently, the work of Patch Adams, M.D., founder of the Gesundheit Institute in Arlington, Virginia, has spurred increased interest in laughter's therapeutic effects, so much so that Dr. Adams' life was the subject of a hit movie starring Robin Williams.

Hearty laughter offers many of the same benfits as gentle exercise. Laughing exercises the facial muscles, shoulders, diaphragm, and abdomen.

Laughter also decreases anxiety and stress and can improve our outlook on life, which is very useful when we get sick. Research shows that laughter may also boost endorphin levels, increase circulation, and enhance immune activity.

All of us laugh at certain times throughout each day, but we can increase laughter's benefits by consciously choosing to laugh more often. Doing so requires commitment and a willingness to cultivate a sense of optimism and humor, however.

Like any skill, learning to become a conscious laugher takes practice, but when you find yourself laughing throughout the day, you can be sure that you are increasingly becoming healthier in every area of your life.

Sometimes, we wonder why friends keep forwarding jokes to us without writing a word.
